Best known for leading the SNP in the House of Commons.

Life and Career[edit | edit source]

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Angus was born in Wimbledon, London[1] to a Scottish father and a German mother. They moved to Scotland shortly after Angus was born and he grew up in Edinburgh. He attended the University of Aberdeen where he studied politics and international relations.

Pre-political Career[edit | edit source]

After university Angus became a journalist, working as a foreign correspondence for the BBC.

Early Political Career[edit | edit source]

Angus joined the SNP at aged 15 when the lead singer of The Proclaimers gave him a leaflet.

Parliamentary Career[edit | edit source]

Angus was first elected to the Commons in 2001, and he was the youngest MP in Scotland at the time. He was made leader of the SNP in the House of Commons in 2007.

Some tables. Appointments should go at the end of their main Government or Opposition section. Greatest moments can go at the end of the section, or wherever it seems most appropriate.

Full List of Appointments
Every job they've ever held as an MP or Lord, from a lowly PPS to Prime Minister. You don't have to include committees, but you should include committee chairmanships. For modern MPs this information can be easily gathered from The Public Whip, but doing so is about as exciting as watching paint dry, so if you don't feel like it just leave the table for someone to fill in later.

If they've only ever been a backbencher, you can delete the table.

• Job 1 Title (Start date [day] [month], [year] - End date [day] [month], [year])

• Job 2 Title (Start date [day] [month], [year] - End date [day] [month], [year])
• Etc

Not everyone has great moments, but if they do, you can link to videos of them in the table below:

Date of video A summary Where can people find a transcript? If it's short- "He died, Jeremy, he tragically died."- just type it out. Otherwise link to Hansard or an interview transcript.

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

Angus married Alex Salmond's former advisor in 2016. They have no children.

The happy couple.

Expenses[edit | edit source]

In 2015 it was reported that Angus's expenses claims have included a television costing £1,119, a £400 home cinema system, £500 for a bed, £20 for a corkscrew and £2,324 for a sofa bed. Angus justified the tv and cinema system on the grounds that it helped him keep up to date with what's going on around the world and in politics. just like any good MP should.

Portrayal[edit | edit source]

In the Media[edit | edit source]

The only time anyone really cared about him was when Alex Salmond got elected to the House of Commons and everyone thought there was going to be a fight between them about who got to lead the Parliamentary Party. There was no fight so he quickly faded back into obscurity.

In Fanon[edit | edit source]

Angus is generally seen as one of the more measured and sane members of the SNP when he's not talking about Scotland. Since he's the leader of the 3rd largest party in the House of Commons he is guaranteed 2 questions at PMQs every week, boosting his profile in the fandom.
