David Cameron fucked a dead pig!~ Traditional British saying

History[edit | edit source]

In September 2015 Lord Ashcroft got a deal to serialise parts of his upcoming biography of David Cameron in The Daily Mail. One of the most sensational parts of this book which was serialised was the allegation that an anonymous source had told Lord Ashcroft and his co-author Isabel Oakeshott that an an "outrageous" initiation ceremony for the Piers Gaveston Society, David Cameron "inserted a private part of his anatomy into a dead pig’s mouth." Moreover the source claimed to have seen pictures of this event.

The story broke, with the exerts making their way around social media over night, leading to hard working people up and down the country waking up to the news that the Prime Minister once[1] put his dick in a dead pig's mouth. This in turn led to a series of "hilarious" articles, memes and even fanfiction about Cameron and pigs.

Reaction[edit | edit source]

Conservatives[edit | edit source]

For his part, David Cameron refused to knowledge the allegations and people close to him such as George Osborne pointed out that Ashcroft had a book to sell so of course he was going to release the most ridiculous and headline worthy allegations. Osborne also noted that Ashcroft was somewhat put out by the fact that despite giving the Conservative Party loads of money he had not been made a Cabinet minister like he wanted and that perhaps spreading these rumours was his way of exacting petty revenge.

Other Conservatives took to twitter and everywhere else to try and downplay the allegations. "You know what it's like, you're young, you're at a party, there's alcohol flowing, you make stupid mistakes!" was the general narrative. This too backfired, with others asking "What sort of other rubbish do you get up to that makes fucking a dead pig seem normal?"

Eventually David Cameron did comment on the story, simply saying that he was far too busy being Prime Minister to sue Ashcroft for the false allegations.

Everyone Else[edit | edit source]

Most people thought the allegation was hilarious.

In 2011 the first episode of the first series of Black Mirror, Charlie Brooker's dark science fiction anthology, aired. In this episode the Prime Minister has to have sex with a pig. When #PigGate happened, people were suspicious that Charlie Brooker had had inside knowledge of the fact that David Cameron had fucked a pig. Charlie Brooker responded by saying "I’d have been screaming it into traffic if I’d known".

Many were also annoyed because just months earlier during the election campaign Ed Miliband and been pictured eating a bacon sandwich. The resulting backlash from how ridiculous he looked mid-sandwich-bite was cited by many on the right as a visual representation of why Labour couldn't be allowed to form a government. The same people were then going on television and saying that sticking your penis in a dead pig[2] was a perfectly fine and reasonable thing for a Prime Minister to have done.

Key Memes[edit | edit source]

Pictures of Cameron during the 2010 general election were unearthed of him attempting to show that he's "just a normal countryside bloke" by posing with various farm animals, including holding a piglet. The pictures were circulated again in the wake of #PigGate but this time with a new implied meaning.

Additionally, someone set up a twitter account for the pig in question. Many references to Peppa Pig were made. There was fanfiction and fanart and parody movie posters.
