A quote about or by the person. It doesn't matter if you can't find one, just leave it blank. ~ The source, if known
Best known for being the only Tory in Scotland, or so the SNP would have you believe. Certainly the only Conservative MP in Scotland.
Life and Career[edit | edit source]
Early Life[edit | edit source]
Born in Dumfries, David grew up in Newton Wamphray and Lockerbie. He attended Lockerbie Academy before reading Law at the University of Edinburgh (MA), also gaining a Diploma in Legal Practice (Dip LP). After further studies, he graduated from Strathclyde Business School as MBA.
Pre-political Career[edit | edit source]
He practised as a solicitor before joining BT as a legal adviser and continued to work at BT in various legal roles before finally leaving the company to embark on a political career.
Early Political Career[edit | edit source]
David joined the Conservatives when he was 14 but defected to the Social Democratic Party when at university. He later switched back and became a list MSP.
Parliamentary Career[edit | edit source]
David was elected to parliament in 2005 and once David Cameron became leader of the Conservative Party, the Scottish David was made Shadow Secretary of State for Scotland. He backed Team GB entering a group into the football part of the Olympics but the different football governing bodies were worried that if they did it for the Olympics then they might have to do it for the European Cup and, ultimate, The World Cup which was just unthinkable apparently.
Following the 2010 general election, the Scotland Office was one of the ones that was given to the Lib Dems (allegedly in recognition of the fact that the Lib Dems had more Scottish MPs than the Tories but probably because it was an easy one to get rid of and make the Lib Dems feel like they had power). Instead, David was made Under-Secretary of State for Scotland.
When the Conservatives formed a majority government following the 2015 general election, David was promoted to the job he was destined for - Secretary of State for Scotland. Unfortunately, 56 out of 59 Scottish MPs now belonged to the Scottish National Party who believed the fact that the Tories even had a Scottish MP let along a whole department dedicated to Scotland was offensive. David's job has not been easy and promises to only get more difficult the longer the parliament continues.

Personal Life[edit | edit source]
David is married with three children.
In January 2016 he came out as gay in a blogpost on his website[1] making him the first Conservative MP to come out while holding a Cabinet level-post in British history.
Lonely[edit | edit source]
Throughout the 2010 parliament David had to endure people often citing a very important fact to him - Scotland has more pandas than it does Tory MPs. The joke got old very quickly, but following the the 2015 it came back when the Lib Dems, Tories and Labour all had one single MP each in Scotland. The SNP love that joke.
Portrayal[edit | edit source]
In the Media[edit | edit source]
Since the media don't really care about Scotland, no one really knows what he's like.
In Fanon[edit | edit source]
Fandom didn't really care for him that much under the coalition but the way in which he has put up with the SNP's tolling has boosted his profile and reputation in fandom considerably.
