In the Media[edit | edit source]
How do the newspapers and political commentators usually portray them?
In Culture[edit | edit source]
Spitting Image helped solidify, if not to create, the image of John Major as a grey, dull, relentlessly boring man. The greyness of his image became more literal as the years went on, with later Major puppets on the show actually having grey skin.
Major was also one of the prime ministers to appear opposite the Queen in Peter Morgan's play, The Audience, functioning as a semi-comic, semi-tragic figure.
In Fanon[edit | edit source]
John Major is primarily infamous in the fandom for having given the world the Cones Hotline, a creation so useless its fame was destined to soon eclipse that of its creator. His oversized glasses and odd face have tended to make photos of Major good fodder for reaction images. Recently in the Tumblr branch of fandom, traffic cone worship has risen from relative obscurity into something resembling a religion, with the holy deity Majus presiding over his faithful flock.
Meme[edit | edit source]
John Major has not made too many appearances on the meme. When he does turn up in fic, he is generally accompanied by various Tory cabinet members of the 1980s/1990s.
Prominent Portrayals in AUs[edit | edit source]
Outside of a brief incident where snake!Peter Mandelson attempted to eat him, John Major has made no notable appearances in any AU.
