Best known for fighting against child abuse and his terrible private life

Life and Career[edit | edit source]

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Simon grew up in Hapton, Lancashire. He started working life at the age of sixteen in a factory making gas fires, before moving to the chemical company ICI. Whilst working, he studied at night school and gained qualifications he had missed out at secondary school. He then gained a place as a mature student at Lancaster University. He studied economics, sociology and politics, and was a member of Cartmel College, Lancaster.

Pre-political Career[edit | edit source]

After that he worked as a researcher for a number of charities and lobbying organisations since he loved politics so much.

Early Political Career[edit | edit source]

Simon had been a member of the Labour Party since the 1980. At the age of 27, he was elected as a councillor to Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, serving for eight years with portfolios including economic development and then education. He also worked for the Labour party in a number of various campaigning roles in between the mid 00's and 2007 when he was selected as the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Rochdale for the 2010 general election.

Parliamentary Career[edit | edit source]

In the 2010 election, Simon won 16,699 votes, unseating incumbent Liberal Democrat Paul Rowen, who received 15,810, despite the incident leading to then Prime Minister Gordon Brown's "bigoted woman" remark having occurred in Rochdale.

In May 2011, Simon made a criminal complaint to Essex Police about Liberal Democrat MP and Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Chris Huhne after it was alleged that Huhne had asked someone to take his penalty points for a speeding offence in 2003. On 3 February 2012, Huhne became the first Cabinet Minister in British political history to be forced from office as a result of criminal proceedings.

Since the election of Jeremy Corbyn as Labour leader, Simon has spent most of his time[1] writing mean articles about the party leadership and claiming that he could totally unseat Corbyn if he wanted to but that he was waiting for the right moment and shhh he SO COULD!

Westminster paedophilia investigation[edit | edit source]

In 2014, Simon published Smile for the Camera: The Double Life of Cyril Smith, an expose of child abuse committed by his parliamentary predecessor in Rochdale.

In July 2014, Simon called for former home secretary Leon Brittan to make public what he knew about a dossier of allegations about paedophiles presented to him by Geoffrey Dickens MP between 1983 and 1985, which could identify several historic child sex abusers who were members of parliament at the time and others closely linked to the political establishment. The Home Office stated the dossier had not been retained in their files. Former Director of Public Prosecutions Lord Macdonald said the circumstances in which the dossier had gone missing were alarming, and recommended an inquiry into its fate. Then Prime Minister David Cameron subsequently asked the Home Office Permanent Secretary to investigate what happened to the missing dossier. Simon responded that another internal inquiry was merely trying to limit damage, and that a public inquiry was necessary to retain public confidence. To date, this has not happened.

Simon wrote to the Director of Public Prosecutions asking for a review of the decision not to investigate certain historical allegations of sexual abuse made against senior Westminster politicians.

In July 2015, Whitehall files were discovered which were previously thought to have been destroyed. In one of them, dated November 1986, the then head of MI5, Sir Antony Duff, accepted a denial by an MP that he was a child-abuser, but noted that "the risk of political embarrassment to the government is rather greater than the security danger". This did not sit well with Simon or other crusaders against child sexual abuse in Westminster such as Tom Watson.

Simon told The Times that the MI5 papers were "explosive", and helped prove that there had been an Establishment cover-up of paedophile activity.

Suspension from the Labour Party[edit | edit source]

On New Years Even 2015 the papers ran with a splash about Simon, who had previously campaigned against child sexual abuse, sexting a 17 year old who had been contacting him in relation to gaining some work experience. Simon admitted it was a "stupid" mistake and the Labour leadership announced shortly afterwards that Simon had been suspended from the party.

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

Simon was married to Sonia Milewski with whom he had two children. They divorced in 2010 after she found out that he had been seeing Karen behind her back.

He married Karen Danczuk, who was a councillor for Kingsway, Rochdale. They have two children. The couple separated in June 2015. In July 2015, he said that he had been suffering from depression caused by his campaigning work on child sexual abuse and that this had affected his second marriage. Later it came about that Karen had been seeing a man who it was even later revealed was her personal fitness instructor. This story ran and ran and ran because neither Simon nor Karen could stop tweeting or complaining to the papers about the other, and Karen repeatedly posted selfies on twitter describing what great workouts she'd been having with her trainer, etc, etc, etc.

Then it was revealed that Simon was dating someone who later turned out to be a Labour Party councillor Claire Hamilton. They then split up because Simon allegedly tried to convince her to have an open relation and when she wouldn't agree, he slept with other women anyway. Claire decided to tell Simon this by making out with his ex-wife Karen and then dumping him on twitter.

On New Years Eve 2015 it was revealed that one of the people that Simon had allegedly been "seeing" was a 17 year old Labour Party member who had be in contact with him in the hopes of getting some work experience with an MP. He had sent sexually explicit messages to the woman in question against her wishes. When this was made public by the woman, Simon publicly apologised and was suspended from the Labour Party.

Portrayal[edit | edit source]

In the Media[edit | edit source]

The media were generally pretty indifferent to him, thinking that he was an arrogant arse with a self-obsessed second wife who was doing some good work, until everything about his private life became public at which point the press accepted that everything about him was fair game and that no one actually liked him.

In Culture[edit | edit source]

If you search for Simon, more pictures of his wife appear than pictures of him, which explains what he was best known for.
