Databases for important fandom knowledge:

On the Wiki:[edit | edit source]

  • Connections: A database of politicians' extra-parliamentary connections: who was at school together, who shared a flat, etc. Names and dates.
  • Housing Index: Who lived where when, for all your geographical placement needs. Indexed at a "general knowledge" rather than a "creepy stalker" level.
  • Baked Goods: Baked goods play a surprisingly large role in Lolitics fandom.

External Resources:[edit | edit source]

  • Hansard: the official record of the Parliament of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, containing transcripts of every debate since 1803. Debates are indexed by MP and date, and you can do text-based searches as well.
  • Erskine May: Parliamentary Practice (24th Edition): sometimes called the "Parliamentary bible", this work of authority (full title - Erskine May's Treatise on the Law, Privileges, Proceedings and Usage of Parliament) is essentially a rule book for anyone involved in the legislative process in the UK.
  • The Public Whip: voting records and official appointments for all parliamentarians dating back to 2000. Records every instance in which an MP voted against his or her party, and also gives statistics on voting records for nuclear defense, gay rights, and other divisive issues. An invaluable resource, slightly less valuable now that it has inexplicably been re-coloured lime green, but still immensely useful.
  • Parliamentlive.tv: video archive of all parliamentary proceedings since July, 2009. You can watch Parliament live or search by date.
  • Democracy Live: Commons and Lords debates and Select Committee meetings, conveniently packaged for you by the BBC. Like ParliamentTV but with labels so you know who the hell everyone is. No region coding, so loliticians outside the UK may partake of the bounty.
  • ITN Video Archives: an easy way to track down what the news was saying about politicians or events at various times.
  • Lolitics GoogleDrive Archives: So far there are two GoogleDrives that host important videos and pictures - one for predominately for fiction and one predominately for non-fiction.
  • Resources for foreigners: as an international fandom, we appreciate that it can sometimes be hard for non-Brits to get a grip on local customs for fic writing and other pursuits. Here are some tools to help you out.
    • Britpickery: a Livejournal community designed to answer those pesky questions about Britain you can't figure out how to Google. Extremely helpful, and with a very quick response time. The one disadvantage is that you can't ask questions anonymously, but they'll never know that you need to know the average price of a pint in a London pub because you're trying to get their Chancellor drunk enough to sleep with their Deputy PM.
    • mySupermarket: want to know what's in Andy Burnham's fridge or what cleaning products he's likely to have under his sink? Here's how you find out. Products and prices from the four biggest UK supermarket chains. You'd be amazed what you can and can't find on their shelves.
