Life and Career[edit | edit source]

She's hot, too.

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Used to be a Young Conservative and that's where she met her now husband John Bercow. She attended King Edward's School Witley and did her A levels at Marlborough College at the same time as Samantha Cameron. She later attended Keble College, Oxford, dropping out after two years. She was the social secretary of the Oxford University Conservative Association while at the University.

Career[edit | edit source]

After university, she pursued a career in public relations and advertising. She once lied/fudged some details on a job application about her university career and the right wing press won't shut the fuck up about it.

Political Ambitions[edit | edit source]

One time, she decided to run for the local council, but it turns out the rules say you're not allowed to use the Palace of Westminster for party political purposes during election campaigning, and seeing as that's where she lives (Damn right! She has the awesomest crib in all of town!), this was a little inconvenient. Then she threatened to set up a tent with the protest commune in Parliament Square and run her campaign form there instead, because she is the kind of total BAMF who will take on the world from a tent if you kick her out of her palace. It is unclear how this situation was resolved. Possibly a wizard did it. Her decision to reveal her complicated past before standing as a Labour councillor (as opposed to the press getting their grubby paws on the info) has only increased the awe most loliticians feel when considering her.

Literary Career[edit | edit source]

When it became clear that a political career didn't seem to be on the cards for her, Sally turned her hand to other projects. Initially she began trying to forge a career as a novelist, with her first book to be called "Westminster Spouses"[1]. However, due to issues with finding a publisher, the book has still yet to be released.

Media Career[edit | edit source]

Following her attempts to start a career as a novelist, Sally tried her had at garnering a media career by appearing on a number of television shows.

Big Brother[edit | edit source]

Sally was a contestant on Celebrity Big Brother 2011. She was greatly criticized for taking part in the show as her antics were thought to have caused damage to her husband's reputation, even going so far as to making John's biggest critic Quentin Letts feel sorry for him[2]. However, Sally justified the appearance on the show by explaining that the money she paid from her appearance was to go to charity.

During her time in the Big Brother house, Sally grew close to fellow contestant Paddy Doherty. The two became friends (with Paddy later admitting to having a crush on Sally[3]) even though Sally was voted out in the first week. They kept in touch and this friendship led to Sally's next big media project...

Sally & Paddy[edit | edit source]

Following their stint in the house, Paddy and Sally starred in their own TV show, "When Paddy Met Sally". During the show, Sally moved into Paddy's home. For the first episode, they lived by Paddy's rules. For the second episode, they lived by Sally's rules. The show was such a hit that they got a second, different show commissioned by Channel 5 called "Paddy and Sally's Excellent Gypsy Adventure" in which the two traveled around the world together learning about the histories and cultures of carious nomadic peoples.

Various Others[edit | edit source]

She has further appeared on a television game show with her daughter and was training to appear on "The Jump", a celebrity skiing game show. She had to pull out following an injury. In a completely unrelated skiing incident a short while later, Sally broke her leg in nine places[4]. She has also appeared on "Sky News", "Daily Politics", "Have I Got News For You" and "Question Time".

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

According to her Twitter, she likes Weetos.

Politics[edit | edit source]

In her youth, Sally was an arch Thatcherite and was a paid up member of the Young Conservatives. As she grew older, she became more and more disillusioned with the party and eventually left it in favour of the Labour Party under Tony Blair's leadership. In fact, she actively campaigned for the Labour Party and her future husband during the 1997 election. Ever since, she has been an outspoken critic of the Conservative Party and campaigned on a number of issues, predominately education and special educational needs stemming from the discovery that her oldest child has autism. Both she and John are Parent Patrons of the charity Ambitious about Autism.

The Bedsheet Photoshoot

Scandals[edit | edit source]

Storm in a Bedsheet[edit | edit source]

In February 2011, Sally did an interview with the Standard[5] in which she talked about how sexy living in parliament is, as well as a number of other things including how women keep hitting on her husband because he's so powerful and power is an aphrodisiac. However, it wasn't so much the interview as the photoshoot that caused controversy. Sally posed in a hotel room wrapped in a bedsheet with the Houses of Parliament in the background. Opinion was divided on whether or not the whole thing was a good idea but everyone agreed she looked banging in the photos.

"Bad" behaviour[edit | edit source]

Throughout her life, Sally had been what the media described as a "ladette"[6], indulging in drinking, casual sexual encounters and generally not giving a fuck about what other people thought of her. However, the fact that she continued to go out drinking and having friends even though she was married to the Speaker caused a number of people to think that their opinions mattered. The longer that the behaviour went on, the more opinions people had.

As well as staying out late partying, Sally dared to get a tattoo[7] with the friend Paddy and got caught snogging a guy on a night out. [8]

Twitter[edit | edit source]

In November 2012 Sally tweeted the following:

Possibly the most expensive tweet in the world at that point

Newsnight had just run a story about a senior Conservative peer who was alleged to have been part of a paedophile ring and Twitter did the usual of adding 2 and 2 together to make 22 and named McApline and the Tory. Sally asked what was going on and on 24 May 2013 after a lengthy and very expensive court battle, the High Court found that Sally Bercow's tweet 'was libelous'. She agreed to pay damages, made a statement and promised to be very good from now on.

During the libel dispute, Sally also named a schoolgirl involved in an abduction case although the girl's identity was protected by a court order. Two days later Bercow's Twitter account was deleted after what was described as 'legal gaffes' but she returned to Twitter a week later.

Affair[edit | edit source]

Just after the 2015 general election, the Daily Mail ran a story claiming that Sally had been having an affair for the duration of the election campaign with her husband's cousin, Alan after growing close due to "a mutual appreciation of fine wine". Subsequent follow up stories gave further details, including that Alan had moved in to John and Sally's flat in Battersea while John had been campaigning in his constituency and that the affair had been going on for a little over a year rather than just the six-ish weeks as initially suggested. It all got very nasty and sad very quickly. In the end, after a trial separation, they got back together[9].

Portrayal[edit | edit source]

In the Media[edit | edit source]

Generally opinion on Sally has been divided between those that believe that she should be free to do her own thing, even if that thing is ridiculous, and those that think she should be more restrained because of how her behaviour reflects on her husband.

In Culture[edit | edit source]

Generally not liked so portrayals are don't highlight her best qualities. Whenever she does anything embarrassing people will tweet "Why is Sally Bercow trending? *innocent face*".

In Fanon[edit | edit source]

Meme[edit | edit source]

She has been in some fics, mostly setting her husband up with Chris Bryant.

The RP[edit | edit source]

Sally appeared in the RP for a short while, mostly making her husband's life awkward and feuding with Dawn Primarolo about werewolf rights.
