...a modern-day Norman Tebbit ~ Total Politics[1]

Priti is most well known in fandom for advocating bringing back the death penalty and generally being incredibly right wing.

Life and Career[edit | edit source]

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Priti was born in London to parents of Gujarati origin who came to Britain in the 1960s from Uganda, departing shortly before Idi Amin announced the expulsion of Ugandan Asians. Priti attended Watford Grammar School for Girls before studying economics, sociology and social anthropology at Keele University and completing her postgraduate studies at the University of Essex. She joined the Conservative Party while John Major was prime minister even though Margaret Thatcher was her favourite.

Early Political Career[edit | edit source]

After graduating Priti got a job working for Andrew Lansley in Conservative Central Office. She left the job and the party in 1995 to work as a press officer for the Referendum Party (a 90s alternative to Ukip) but rejoined the Conservatives after they changed their policy to something more Eurosceptic. She then got a job working for William Hague when he was leader of the Conservative Party.

Deciding that she should probably have some experience outside politics before standing as an MP, Priti left her job and started working for a PR company, specialising in lobbying the government on behalf of the tobacco and alcohol industries. It was later revealed that she dealt with the press on behalf of British American Tobacco when stories were cirulating that they paid Burmese factory workers £15 a month. Priti earned £165 an hour to deal with the bad press.

Parliamentary Career[edit | edit source]

Priti stood unsucessfully in a safe Labour seat in 2005 and when David Cameron was elected leader of the party, he picked her out to be part on his "A Team" candidates list. She was elected for the safe seat of Witham in 2010. She was drafted into the Number 10 Policy Unit in October 2013, and was promoted to Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury the following summer. After the 2015 general election, Priti rose to cabinet level as Minister of State for Employment at the Department for Work and Pensions.

Priti was in favour of Brexit and campaigned heavily for the Leave vote, calling the EU "undemocratic and interferes too much in our daily lives" as well as saying that immigration was hurting schools and overstretching all the UK's resources in general. She also launched the Women For Britain campaign which sought to promote leaving the EU among women. Priti compared her group to the Suffragettes which drew a lot of criticism from basically everyone, including Emmeline Pankhurst's great-granddaughter.

After the Brexit win and Cameron's resignation, Priti was an early backer of eventual winner and Prime Minister Theresa May[2]. Priti's loyalty was rewarded with a promotion to Secretary of State for International Development.

Secretary of State for International Development[edit | edit source]

As Secretary of State Priti has pushed for a reduction of British aid across the world. She also advocated for further aid deals to include "performance agreements" meaning that the UK government could reduce aid by 10% if specific criteria were not met by the recipient country.

Constituency Boundary Issues[edit | edit source]

The proposals for new constituency boarders seeks to merge her seat with that of John Whittingdale, meaning one of them is either going to have to stand down or find an alternative seat.

Full List of Appointments
• Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury (15 July 2014 – 11 May 2015)
• Minister of State for Employment (11 May 2015 - present)

Ideology[edit | edit source]

Priti is on the right wing of the Conservative Party. She advocated bringing back the death penalty on Question Time and voted against same-sex marriage. She's a big fan of large alcohol and tobacco companies, often raising their interests in parliament much to the delight of the Tax Payers Alliance. This is probably why she was appointed a minister with leave to attend Cabinet.

She doesn't care who she pisses off because right is always right.

Her idol is Margaret Thatcher

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

In July 2004, Patel married Alex Sawyer. They have a son, Freddie, born in August 2008.

Portrayal[edit | edit source]

In the Media[edit | edit source]

The right-wing and Thatcherites love her. Everyone else... not so much.

In Fanon[edit | edit source]

Since fandom tends to skew pretty leftie, Priti is not particularly liked in fandom.

Meme[edit | edit source]

What sort of fics have they featured in?

Shipping[edit | edit source]

None, but probably should be paired with Norman Tebbit.
